PHILIPPIANS!

Well, this reading thing is moving ahead of my typing, but if you are wanting to stay on track with us, we are zooming on past Malachi yesterday and stepping into the book of Philippians.  Again, I want to encourage each of you to take some time before reading the books that we are studying and focus in on a good commentary/set up of the cultural/historical setting of the book/writing itself.  There are many things we cannot understand from the text simply because of culture, and there are many helps to give us a background of basic information.  I would suggest something very short for the pace that we are on.  One such intro for Malachi would be found at:  http://www.abideinchrist.com/messages/mal3v1.html.  Today's reading and Saturdays can be opened up by :  http://www.abideinchrist.com/messages/philintr.html.  We are reading Philippians 1-2 today and 3-4 saturday.  Take Sunday on your own study and we will pick back up on Monday.  Remember to post your interactions below!

I would recommend that you study the opening in such a way as to gain basic information.  The goal of a commentary is not to gain all the learning that is to be "got" from the book.  The Holy Spirit is the giver of the real truth and application for your life, the background study is more for a cultural/historical perspective.  For our studies again don't spend too much time on that (unless of course you can).  :)

Enjoy-  Stuart

Learned the Apostle Paul had a closer relationship with the church at Philippi than with any other church

Wrote the letter to the church while he was most likely in prison

Theme of the book is JOY! Christ was more than Paul's example, but He was Paul's entire life.

Man if you read the first two chapters you may be stoked like I am. PAUL LAID HIS LIFE DOWN FOR THE CHURCH. He longed for Christ to fully fill the church!!! Let it be so at 180!
